Testimonials
“We would like to say thank you for your support to our school! The Community Enrichment Project began by assisting with the voter registration drive for our students in pushing out the vote. They began working in the classroom with our students, holding bi-weekly workshops around civic and community engagement issues. The Community Enrichment Project has [also] provided groceries, prepared foods, and other supplies to our families and community. We look forward to our continued partnership going forward.”
-William Haith, Principal
“The Community Enrichment Project is a great organization that is focused on youth engagement.”
- Stanley Gillespie, Social Studies Teacher
“CEP provided a dynamic program for our girls at Browne Middle School and Eastern High School. During this critical time of election season and the high demand for civic engagement, CEP's program was the perfect session for setting the foundation for understanding the importance of both topics.”
-Saba Zewdu, Programs Manager, YWCA National Capital Area
"The Community Enrichment Project program has been a great asset for our students. The facilitator has been able to develop rapport with our students, share resources and provide speakers to support our students. We look forward to keeping the program going!"
-Theodora Jackson, School Psychologist
"Excellent presentation encouraging students to be outstanding current and future leaders. The students were really engaged and wanted to know more about social injustice issues. Excellent job."
-Justin Nwachu, School Librarian
"My students and I enjoyed working with CEP. You exposed my Constitutional Law students to certain aspects of local government in which they had no knowledge about. They analyzed the various inner workings of the DC government, as well as determine how they impact them directly. In one of your last workshops, you had students research which ward they lived in, determined their ANC, and looked at various neighborhoods around DC to determine food deserts and other criteria. In addition, you provided my students with applications for the Student Election Workers for the November election. I had a few students to complete the application and send it in to the DC Board of Elections. One of them has already been accepted as an election worker! All of this and more is due entirely to you. My students could relate to you because you seemed to relate to them on their level, as well as being personable but still demanding respect in the class. You tailor your workshops to the needs of the student population and make sure they leave with newfound knowledge."
-Shelina Warren, TLI Teacher Leader, Social Studies Teacher
"The workshop provided young people an opportunity to be vulnerable and honest about their ideas and societal/structural impacts. The workshop allowed them to create every day solutions using both a grassroots approach with social media, a tool they are experts in."
-Losa Berhane, School Programs Associate
“I learned that it is important for us to tell our story. It is important to look at our communities and try to advocate as well as make change in the community.”
- Cedric M., Age 17
"What I like about this program is when I first came to join this program I was welcomed with opened arms. I can be myself in this group. I've learned so much from being in this group from different things going on in the world. I've learned leadership. This is an amazing group--I mean we literally talk about everything. We laugh and we have fun while doing it!
-Egypt G., Age 17
"I have learned how to become a better leader from being in this program, by knowing that my voice matters. I can help my community by talking to other people my age about the problems in our community and finding ways we can possibly solve them. By coming together with people in my age group we can get a lot done."
-Kerry T., Age 15
"This is a great program to come to when you need encouragement and motivation to do something, or if you want to just come and talk about issues that you would like to change. Not only does the program help you earn some community service hours but it also helps you build connections and friendships with people in the group, whether you know them or not. The group taught me how to be more outspoken on something that bothers me, but at the right time, and how to be more respectful to others and understand how others feel in different situations. This group is a place of comfort to speak out on all your thoughts and to make a change in your environment."
-Kalia K., Age 16
